Stornoway seaweed conference

The Hebridean Seaweed Company is hosting an international meeting of companies and researchers with an interest in "Seaweeds for Health".

The company (hebrideanseaweedcompany.co.uk) is currently involved in a major 1,000,000 collaborative research project to develop commercial opportunities for the production of interesting dietary fibres and prebiotics from seaweeds for use in human digestive health products.

Also involved in the project are two other seaweed companies, Marigot Ltd., from Ireland and Industrias Roko from Spain) and three research groups; CyberColloids in Ireland, Northern Ireland Centre for Food and Health, University of Ulster (N. Ireland) and The Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University of Reading (UK).

They will be attending the two-day meeting being held at Stornoway's Cabarfeidh Hotel tomorrow (June 22) and Wednesday; they will also be joined by other companies and research groups from across the UK and Europe and from as far afield as India and USA.
