'The Gaelic Frock Coat' in Scottish Style Awards
BESPOKE fashion designer Judy Clark has been shortlisted in the 'New Designer of the Year' category at the Scottish Style Awards – and has been helped in her creations by Ness textile designer Alison McLeod.
The Fort William born Judy, aged 24, will be showing her latest collection alongside some of the top names in Scottish fashion design such as Aimee McWilliams and Vidler and Nixon.
Recently returned from an internship with world famous fashion icon Alexander McQueen, Judy's Scottish Style Awards runway collection mixes a variety of Harris tweeds with vibrant, hand-dyed silks from Nepal.
One of the pieces on display is the result of collaboration with Alison McLeod who produced a textile piece embellished with Gaelic song lyrics describing ladies at a ceilidh dancing in high-heeled shoes and calico petticoats.
Alison has used a fusion of tweed, wool and digitally printed fabrics with hand stitched detail in the piece which Judy has the used to create a stunning Belle poque inspired jacket using her own palette of tweeds, sumptuous silks and elegant lace.
The item is being billed as 'The Gaelic Frock Coat' and can be seen at the Scottish Style Awards runway show which takes place on Thursday, October 23, in the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow, and is hosted by TV presenter Lauren Laverne.
