Third Sector Hebrides (TSH) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive.

Hector MacLeod, currently based in Uist, will take up his position in early April, filling the position that has been vacant since September 2013.

Having joined TSH in 2011 as a development officer in Uist, Mr MacLeod progressed to Deputy Chief Executive in 2012, and has been acting Chief Executive most recently.

He had previously worked in the private sector, but has had a long involvement on a personal basis in the voluntary and social enterprise sector, including being a member of the initial steering group that led to the formation of Storas Uibhist.

Mr Macleod said he was looking forward to taking up the post on a more permanent basis.

“Although I have been fulfilling the role on a temporary basis since last year, I feel I can now fully get on with the task at hand. There are many challenges to be faced, but I look forward to addressing these challenges, and I also looking forward to identifying new opportunities for the organisation.”

He added: “We must not lose sight of the founding principles of the organisation, supporting individuals and organisations within our communities, but we must do so from a sound financial basis that will allow us to protect and expand our operations as we go forward. As part of this we will be looking at existing activities and structures, and be taking a view on the appropriate model to take us forward.”

“I feel that with the support of a pro-active board and a committed staff group, the organisation will move forward and develop, continuing to provide essential services to the community we serve. I also look forward to forging and maintaining constructive relationships with stakeholders and statutory bodies, both locally and nationally, that will prove to be mutually beneficial”

Welcoming the appointment, TSH Chairman Neil Campbell said: “ We welcome Hector to the senior position of Chief Executive and will support him to achieve the shared aims and objectives of our organisation in continued growth and development serving the community of the Western Isles.”

TSH is currently the umbrella body for the voluntary sector in Lewis and Uist. Based in Stornoway and Benbecula, the organisation provides advice and support to individuals, charities, not for profit organisations and social enterprises. In addition to this, TSH has several trading arms, including STARAN in Lewis and UCVO Trading in Uist.
