Vandalism concerns prevent easier war memorial access

.

.

Access to the Lewis War Memorial by car is limited due to concerns of anti-social activities a Comhairle spokesperson has confirmed.

The issue was raised by a Stornoway Gazette reader after a visiting World War Two veteran was unable to pay respects at the memorial as the main gate was padlocked and he was unable to gain access by car.

The reader explained that this poses a problem for elderly and disabled people who would have difficulty walking up the step hill to the monument and questioned why the council would keep it locked.
