An Edinburgh man has broken the World Record for Fastest Marathon in Full Highland Dress at the Callanish Stones Marathon at the weekend.
Gavin Orr, from Harmeny Athletics Club, set the World Record wearing a kilt, sporran, full length socks, dress shirt with bow tie, waistcoat and jacket- which were fully buttoned the whole time - and a hat.
He completed the marathon in 3:46:14 - smashing his aim of running it in under five hours.
The attempt has been certified by Guinness as meeting the criteria for an official World Record with the only concession being that he wore trainers and not brogues.
The challenge was also an opportunity for Gavin to raise funds for the Aberlour Child Care Trust, a charity supported by his employer Tesco Bank who will top up any funds raised. It is based near his late father’s home village and provides support to thousands of vulnerable children.
The marathon was won by Rupert Shute, Reading Road Runners in 2:49:15. The first woman across the line was Susan Johnston, Constorphine AAC, 3:30:32
