Local vet Hector Low, of Old Mill Veterinary Practice in the Isle-of-Lewis, has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Vet of the Year 2014’ at the Petplan Veterinary Awards – recognising those in the vet profession who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in keeping pets healthy and owners happy.
Hector has been a vet for 30 years, 25 of those at the Old Mill Veterinary Practice and still feels privileged to work with animals. During that period he moved his practice to new premises so it could offer better facilities and a wider range of services for animals and owners alike and particularly enjoys the more challenging cases that arrive at his door.
On receiving his award, Hector said: “I don’t believe it. It’s incredible. I’m absolutely gobsmacked. I’m so grateful to our clients who have supported and put me forward, I’d like to thank them very much. I think they’ll be so pleased to see the award come back to the island; they’re such a smashing bunch of people. I’m so lucky to do what I do as I just enjoy it!”
Suzanne Cheadle, Petplan’s Acting Head of Marketing, explains: “As the leader in the pet insurance market for over 36 years, we have a rich history of working with veterinary practices across the UK. The Petplan Veterinary Awards recognise and celebrate the fantastic work that goes on across those practices. Hector is a shining example of the exceptional and steadfast service that vets deliver to clients and their pets throughout the country. He has always got his clients and their pets at the forefront of all his decisions and is truly passionate about his role within the profession. We are delighted to name him Petplan’s Vet of the Year 2014.”
