The Lewis and Harris Breast Cancer Support Group are delighted to have a new home in the Lewis Retirement Centre on Bayhead, Stornoway.
Due to financial reasons the group had to give up the lease on their Kenneth Street premises last year, but now once again have a base from which to offer support and information to those affected by Breast Cancer.
Convenor of the group, Mary Macleod, explained: “We got lots of grants the first year we had the drop-in centre - once you’ve had all these grants your not going to get them again.
“For the last two years we were unable to get a grant from anybody. So in the end we decided to terminate the lease at the end of December.”
Mary continued: “The Chairman of the Lewis Retirement Centre, Donald McKee, then came along and offered the group a look at the premises here in the Retirement Centre. After that the members were very happy to move in on Friday 7th of this month.”
Mr McKee added: “We’re delighted that one charity can help another charity and we can both benefit.”
You can contact the Lewis and Harris Breast Cancer Support Group by calling Mary on 01851 704138 or Joan on 01851 850296. Meetings are held in the new premises on Thursdays, between 2pm and 4pm, and anyone wanting information and support is welcome to attend.
