This week work started on transforming Ullapool Harbour as part of the £10m redesign ahead of the arrival of the new MV Loch Seaforth.
On Monday main contractors RJ Macleod took to the site for the first time in what will be an extensive upgrade of the facilities to accommodate the new Stornoway/ Ullapool vessel due to enter service this summer.
An impressive new passenger access system (gangway) will be installed, taking passengers directly from the terminal building to the ferry entrance.
Meanwhile the pier will be extended by 33 meters to accommodate the new ferry, which will be considerably larger than the MV Isle of Lewis and act as both a passenger and freight vessel.
See the video above of a simulation of the new ferry berthing at Ullapool and see this week’s Stornoway Gazette, out today, for more on the work being carried out.
