The Western Isles Conservative Association have issued a statement following yesterday’s European Parliamentary Election results which saw them gain 761 votes, the best result for the party in the Western Isles since 2001.

The statement said: “We are delighted to have doubled our share of the vote since the last Scottish parliamentary election in 2011.

“This is our best result in the Western Isles since 2001 and it highlights, what we as an association have been aware of for sometime, that, some conservative voters in the islands who have been voting SNP tactically over the past 20 years are coming back to us.

“We understand the reasons for this and are aware of a considerable and evolving groundswell of support for us in these islands.”
