editorial image

Fire crews are currently in attendance at a wildfire at Carinish on North Uist.

The road was closed earlier this morning due to smoke but police have confirmed all roads are now open.

Crews from Benbecula, Lochmaddy and Lochboisdale attended shortly after 8am this morning and the road was closed for a short time.

The fire covered 10 acres of moorland and a hydro pole also caught fire.

Crews were also called out to two wildfires on the island yesterday (Sunday).
