Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is currently dealing with a wildfire incident in the area around Lews Castle in Stornoway.
The call was received by Control in Inverness at around 12.20pm and reports suggest an acre of woodland is being affected, including well established trees.
Two appliances from Stornoway, one from Tarbert and one from Shawbost are at the scene and firefighters are tackling the blaze with knapsack sprayers, fire beaters and four main jets.
Incident Commander Station Manager Steve Oliver said: “It’s a fairly small area of fire, but it has gone into established woodland so we are fighting it aggressively on two flanks at present to extinguish it as quickly as possible.
“The crews are working on undulating ground, which is difficult, but are doing an excellent job.”
SFRS wants everyone to Join Scotland’s Fight Against Fire and would like to remind the public and land managers that the warmer weather increases the risk of wildfire incidents.
There are a number of things we all can do to help prevent potentially devastating wildfires. Information and advice on how you can help is available Scottish Fire and Rescue Service website.
