A 26 year old man was airlifted from a tanker 80 miles west-southwest of Barra Head this morning (Monday).
Rescue 100, the Coastguard Rescue helicopter based at Stornoway, took the crewman from the Motor Tanker GEMMATA and transported him to Stornoway Airport.
The man was suffering from appendicitus and was taken from the airport to Western Isles Hospital by ambulance.
On Saturday, Stornoway Coastguard received a 999 call from the owner of the fishing vessel BOY GRANT which had gone aground on the Isle of Muck and was taking on water with one person on board. The Boy Grant was assisted into Muck Harbour by a local vessel, called The Wave, then escorted and later towed to Mallaig Harbour by the Mallaig RNLI Lifeboat for repairs.
