To mark the end of ‘Battle of Britain’ week (15th to 21st September), the Stornoway Branch of the RAF Association (RAFA) held a parade and church service on Sunday 21st September at Martin’s Memorial church, Stornoway.
Taking part were members of RAFA, Royal British Legion, Merchant Navy Association, Lewis Air Cadets and RAF personnel from RAF Benbecula.
The parade was led by the Standards of the various organisations.
The church service, commemorating the sacrifices of ‘The Few’ during the Battle of Britain in 1940, and Air Force personnel generally during WW II, was conducted by Rev. Thomas MacNeil, with guests of honour, the Lord Lieutenant and Vice Lord Lieutenant.
RAFA would like to thank the generosity of the public for their donations on RAFA’s flag day on Saturday 20th September, which go towards the charity’s work with ex-members of the RAF and their families.
