On Monday 18th June Stòras Uibhist will hold an open meeting to discuss the growing problem of geese on the islands of Benbecula and South Uist.
The meeting will be held in Stoneybridge Hall at 8pm.
The annual goose count demonstrated that numbers are continuing to increase, with over 6000 greylag geese in the Uists, which cause significant problems for local crofters.
Rebecca Cotton of Machair LIFE+ and Johanne Ferguson of SNH will also be present to review the operation of last years’ goose management scheme and identify how improvements can be made this year.
Information on a potential new scheme aimed at significantly reducing goose numbers will also be made available at the meeting. SNH, in conjunction with the Uist Goose Management Group will be applying to Scottish Government for funding for this new scheme and is seeking support from local crofters for this initiative.
