Captain Ali Mackenzie (pictured above) has spoken of his pride after being recognised in the recent Queen’s Honours List with a meritorious service medal.
The Stornoway-born man was back on home soil this week as part of a recruitment drive with the Royal Scots Guard, who also played with the Lewis Pipe Band during their visit.
He said: “It is a great honour to be in the Queen’s birthday honours and receive the meritorious service medal. I’ve been doing this 24-years now but I’m well chuffed. “All I’ve ever done is give 100 per cent in everything I do and you never go looking for these types of things but it is a great pat on the back for a boy from Stornoway.
“It is a huge honour to be back home in Stornoway and to be here with the recruiting team and also with our pipes and drums which has been a great success over the weekend.
“A couple of boys have also shown an interest in the Forces too but it is always good to come back as I don’t get home as much as I’d like to.”
