Mini festive fèis in the Uists

South Uist Gaelic arts and heritage orgnaisation Ceòlas are running a mini fèis/school for a few days leading up to the new year celebrations.

They kick off on Monday, December 28th with a dance in Iochdar hall with Trail West.

The classes are in Piping (Angus Nicolson), Fiddle (Allan Henderson), Singing (Sineag MacIntyre), Dance (Laura Johnston) and Groupwork (Alana MacInnes).

All are welcome to take all or just pick a few of the classes, or just drop-in for one, its very flexible and for all ages as specified. Most of the classes and events are happening in the old grand estate house of Grogarry Lodge in South Uist.

On Tuesday night (December 29th) there is a ceilidh with talks about the Uist bards and songs from Linda MacLeod from North Uist and Pàdruig Morrison from Grimsay with more from the community.

On Wednesday evening there is an invitation to the Ceilidh/Dance at Stoneybridge hall.

During Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, there will be group work classes in Iochdar School for the younger musicians/singers to come and join in the celebrations, with special guests arriving to perform.

Come along and have a free dram and some shortbread while you listen to the best piping in Uist at the recital on Hogmanay and on the 1st of January we have the farewell ‘Ceilidh Chullaig’ at 7.30pm.

Later in January Ceòlas are performing at Celtic Connections in The Old Fruitmarket on Thursday, January 21st in collaboration with Lews Castle College, Benbecula Campus.
