WESTERN Isles MSP Alasdair Allan, has given his support to the serious efforts now underway to create a malt whisky distillery in Tarbert, Harris.
Dr Allan described the proposals as a ‘real opportunity for much needed economic activity in Harris.’
He added: “I have been impressed with the plans to add Harris to Scotland’s whisky trail and to create a new visitor attraction in the islands as well as an outstanding product.
“I have met the group investing in this proposal twice now in Parliament and believe that they are committed to bringing this project to fruition.
“The next period will be the crucial one in determining whether the distillery becomes a reality.
“As local MSP I have been in touch with HIE and other agencies making the case for a project which, in time, could create 20 jobs as well as act as a showcase for Harris Tweed and the island’s tourist industry.
“Harris clearly needs and wants investment and I wish this worthy project every success.”
