The Morrison family came across some strange looking moluscs while walking on Northton Beach in Harris recently.

Intrigued as to what kind they were, the Gazette did some investigating.

David Maclennan, Unit Manager at SNH for Argyll and the Outer Hebrides, said they were Goose moluscs which are in fact reasonsably common.

They attach themselves to timber in the sea.

In Spain and Portugal they are considered a delicacy and are called percebes.
