The winner of the Neil Martin Honour Trophy for 2011 is John Angus Reid of Dunmore Crescent, Leverburgh, son of Iain and Flora Ann Reid.
The trophy is awarded on the basis of whichever person or group has brought special credit to themselves or to the island of Harris in the field of public service, education, outstanding sporting achievement, an act of heroism or other worthy act during the past year.
John Angus joined the Royal Highlanders in May 2008 and has just recently returned from Afghanistan where he has been in many dangerous and life threatening situations.
At present he is stationed with No. 2 Platoon A Coy 4 Scot AKA Hldrs in Germany with the ominous prospect of returning to Afghanistan sometime in the future.
His mother, Flora Ann, is of the illustrious MacKay family of which Donald John MacKay (brother), John Angus’ uncle, was awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours List.
