Two Co-operative Food stores in the Western Isles are being transformed, with investments totalling more than £1m that will create a new shopping experience for customers.
A new-look Cromwell Street store will open on Thursday, 27 November, while shoppers in Benbecula will see their revamped Creagorry store unveiled a week later, on Thursday, 4 December.
In-store bakeries are being extended, and both stores will have improved ranges of fresh produce, ready meals and pizzas. The Creagorry store will have a new layout.
Staff at both stores are receiving additional training to enable them to provide expert advice and to help inspire customers with meal ideas.
The Co-operative has also launched its commitment to “Fair and Square Pricing”, lowering prices on hundreds of everyday essentials such as bread, milk and bacon.
Michael Boylan, The Co-operative Food’s Operations Manager for the Western Isles, said: “We’re excited about welcoming shoppers into the new look stores. The transformations will be amazing, and I’m sure our customers will enjoy shopping in the new environments, which will provide them with convenient locations to pick up everything they need to create inspirational and tasty meals.
“The Co-operative is a community retailer, and we are committed to playing an active role in local life, embracing the areas’ community spirit. The stores will be hubs for the local community, and customers will be able to find out what is going on locally, and learn more about how The Co-operative can benefit local groups.”
Both stores also have a “community pioneer”, Melissa Garvey at Cromwell Street and Iain Jevons at Creagorry, appointed as part of a new programme that sees members of the store team with an additional remit to foster a strong involvement in community activity, from volunteering opportunities to helping develop solutions to meet local needs.
The Cromwell Street store will close, temporarily, from 6pm this Saturday, 15 November, while refurbishment work is carried out. Work is already underway at the Creagorry store, and it will close for around a week from 8pm on Thursday, 27 November.
