Post Office Ltd confirmed today (Friday) that Barvas Post Office branch, Isle of Lewis will be replaced with a new Hosted Service.
Following the end of the formal period of public consultation the hosted Post Office service will be introduced at premises at Barvas and Brue Community Centre, less than a mile from its current premises.
Customers will still be able to access the same range of products and services as the existing service.
The existing service will cease at 1pm on Tuesday, March 1, and the new hosted service will open at 1.30pm on Tuesday, March 8th.
The new hosted service, provided by the subpostmistress from Shawbost Post Office branch will operate for a total of five hours per week, on Tuesdays and Fridays between 1.30 and 4pm.
The proposed hours of service have been based on customer usage of the branch prior to closure and Post Office Ltd stated they are confident that the Hosted service will adequately cope with customer demand. However, they said they will continue to monitor the service on an ongoing basis and should customer usage increase significantly, opening times would be adjusted accordingly.
Kenny Lamont, Field Change Advisor, Post Office Ltd, said: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term. The decision to introduce this hosted service is designed to create a more viable and sustainable service for the local community, and continues to allow us to provide a service in Barvas.
“The facilities and service that we provide to our customers is of paramount importance and we are confident that the new service can meet the demands of our customers in the local community and we hope it will be supported.”
