Each month, the independent environmental charity ‘Keep Scotland Beautiful’ recognises a local hero for their efforts to Clean Up their local community.
The ‘Clean Up Scotland’ campaign is coordinating this activity to make Scotland the cleanest country in Europe. It aims to change long-term behaviour by making littering unacceptable.
The campaign began a year ago and has recognised ‘Heroes’ from across Scotland, for their outstanding contribution.
From the Scottish Borders to the Shetland Isles people living in Scotland are leading their communities to take action to remove litter and improve their local area.
Mark Bevan, Campaigns Director at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “Clean Up Scotland is all about the people of Scotland deciding to take action to improve where they live, work or spend their leisure time.
“The work of volunteers makes a real difference and is essential in inspiring others to Clean Up their local area.
“Clean Up Scotland’s Hero of the Month draws attention to amazing people, improving not just how a place looks but how people feel about their community.
“However, not everyone has the time and capacity to organise a Clean Up or, for example, to clear an overgrown path. But, you can nominate someone for an award or show your support for the campaign by signing the pledge.”
