IN line with sheep tagging procedures, sheep under one year old are only required to be tagged with a single flock tag.
Sheep over one year old must be double tagged (be fully identified).
It is illegal to use just one tag from a set of double tags, or tag two sheep by splitting a set of double tags.
It is also illegal to remove one tag from a double tagged lamb in an attempt to convert it to a slaughter lamb.
Sheep born or identified before December 31st, 2009, still with their original tags do not need to be re-identified.
