This week Ollie the Collie accompanied by his handler PC Cameron Ross & school liaison officers visited all Primary Schools in Uist and Barra.

All school pupils and teachers were provided with a presentation on Ollie’s duties as the Western Isles Police Dog.

Ollie thereafter showed off his drugs detection skills to pupils by initially searching an area of the school and indicating on controlled drugs hidden by PC Ross.

Laughter was then enjoyed by all pupils, as Ollie scanned each person including teachers for drugs. Unknown to pupils a teacher from each school had drugs purposely placed on them, once Ollie passed the relevant teacher he would give a full indication sitting at the teachers feet.

The indication from Ollie provided pupils with great delight that their teacher was on the wrong side of the law, however it was soon highlighted to the children the drugs were planted by Police before stories were returned home.

‘Ollie the Collie’s’ trip to the Southern Isles is a continuation of his Western Isles educational tour. Come December, Ollie would have visited each school in the Western Isles.
