Olympic Flame for Isles?

Hopes are high that the Western Isles will be part of the route for the Olympic Flame’s journey to open the London Games next year.

The Olympic icon is set to arrive in the UK from Greece in May next year and will spend the ensuing months travelling the length and breadth of the UK before the Games open in July 2012.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have officially registered their interest for the islands to be included in the intinerary and are hopeful that Lord Seb Coe’s visit here last year will strengthen their request.

The Olympic flame is lit at a special ceremony at Olympia in Greece - the site of the ancient Games - then taken to the host country.
