A team of intrepid swimmers are about to take on the challenge of swimming the 60 miles from the Western Isles to St Kilda.

A weather window has opened up which will see them start off on their epic challenge at 4am on Friday morning.

The group of adventurers will then attempt to become the first team to swim 60 miles across the North Atlantic ocean from Harris to St.Kilda (the Dual World Heritage site) to raise money for four charities.

The swimmers will swim front crawl in 45 minute relays and will be supported by three kayakers and a cabin cruiser.

The Swimmers are Ed Smith, Mark Maciver, Eilidh Whiteford, Laura Bicker, John Dyer, Angus Murray, Douglas Forbes, Ian Mitchell and Colin Macleod (Team Captain).

With the Support Kayakers being Michael Sullivan, Allan Macdonald and Dave Adams. Murdo Macdonald and his crew on board the Mv Cuma will keep the team warm with hot food and drinks plus accommodation.

This event would not be possible without the generosity of Murdo and also TalkTalk who have sponsored the event.

People can donate and track the swimmers via their website, which will be updated every 15 minutes from the start of the event: here
