Opening Festival concert sets the scene

As a declaration of intent the 16th Hebridean Celtic Festival could not have got off to a better start than the opening show in An Lanntair.

The capacity audience were treated to an ensemble of musicians and singers that distilled the very essence of what the festival is all about.

Each accomplished in their own right this was a group of people that could easily have held the stage all night as soloists.

Wowing the crowd and setting the scene for the days ahead were multi award winning vocalists, Darren Maclean (Skye), Jenna Cumming (Inverness/Harris) and Linda Macleod (North Uist). They were ably accompanied by world class musicians, Matheu Watson, Patsy Reid, Alasdair White and James Mackenzie. Their polished performances took the audiences on a musical journey through the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides in celebration of Scotland’s Islands Initiative which has this year helped provide a second stage to showcase the best of island talent.
