Comhairle nan Eilean Siar yesterday formally opened their new office in Harris yesterday (Tuesday 17th).
The old primary school building has been renovated to a high standard and now houses Comhairle employees as well as other local community services.
The building was opened by Marion Morrison, former Harris Office manager, who unveiled a plaque to mark the opening. Sir E. Scott School provided entertainment for the guests, with performances from 2 soloists, a duet and the Senior Choir.
Speaking at the ceremony Comhairle Convener, Norman MacDonald said: “Our thanks, on behalf of the Comhairle, go to all the staff for their hard work in the build-up to this occasion and for their patience over the last couple of years whilst working in a variety of locations.
“It is pleasing to see that this old school building is now being put to good use and that the Comhairle can continue to offer a traditional service in a more modern environment.”
He continued: “The Comhairle is wholly committed to providing a service for the public throughout our islands and having a central Harris ‘hub’ here in Tarbert will encourage partnership work and strengthen local presence within the community.”
