THE Conserving Scottish Machair LIFE+ Project is inviting crofters to set aside crop for seed production this harvest time.
The project is offering a payment to crofters within the Natura 2000 designated sites network on Uist and Barra to harvest up to one hectare of crop for seed by binder or combine. Increasing the area of corn kept as a seed crop will help to maintain traditional machair rotations while securing the supply of local seed and preserving its genetic integrity.

The Conserving Scottish Machair LIFE+ project is funded by the European Union LIFE+ scheme and is a partnership between The RSPB, SNH, CnES and the SFC.
