Pink effort pays off

Have your say

From the tops of their pink-ribboned heads to the tips of their pink painted toes the ladies in Lewis and Harris have stretched themselves with yoga and Pilates exercise evenings to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign.

The 2011 events raised a total of £1,020 and the charity has asked us to pass on its thanks to everyone who contributed.

Statistics show that women who exercise regularly reduce their risk of contracting breast cancer so the participants were helping themselves as well as raising money for research.

Fitness professional and Pilates instructor, Peggy Briggs, who organised the events, said she was delighted with the amount raised. She thanked those who raised sponsorship, the sponsors themselves and those who were unable to attend but who sent along donations.

As the venues were given free of charge and all instruction was on a voluntary basis, 100% of the money raised has been sent to the charity.

Most of the ladies in pink are continuing their efforts to keep themselves fit and healthy by joining regular classes run by Mike and Peggy Briggs. Classes start again in January with yoga, Pilates and general fitness and weight loss sessions. STRONG AND SLEEK IN HARRIS

In addition to their long-standing yoga and Pilates classes, Mike and Peggy Briggs are offering two new exercise classes in Harris this winter to help people get back into shape after seasonal excesses. A ‘Legs, Bums & Tums’ class will work on making those areas strong and sleek again. For those wanting something a little less strenuous, or those not as young as they used to be, the ‘Stretch & Tone’ class will feel gentler and rejuvenating.
