Plenty to look forward to in Ceòlas 2015 programme

Ceòlas the South Uist cultural organisation is planning another Song Conference, following the model used in the international EOST project for the weekend of May 22nd to 24th. Gillebride MacMillan, Jo MacDonald and Naomi Harvey will be supported by other speakers and more of the songs collected during EOST will be taught.

The Ceòlas Summer School 2015 which runs from 5-10th July has also announced the tutors for this year’s event.

Cape Breton tutors will be returning for their second year: Fiddlers Howie MacDonald and Dwayne Cote with Cheryl MacQuarrie to Step dance.

Howie and Dwayne are two of the outstanding fiddlers presently performing in Cape Breton. Ceòlas is delighted with the return of Margaret MacLellan, Paul McCallum for song and Griogair Lawrie for Piobaireachd Song, as well as Ceol Mòr.

Fin Moore will teach Piping for Dance and our Youth Pipers will be pleased with Angus Nicolson and our Youth Fiddlers with Alasdair White. Jayne MacLeod from Ness in Lewis will teach Step Dance with Cheryl MacQuarrie.

Clarsach will have a new tutor Patsy Seddon and Gaelic Immersion Classes will be taught Catriona MacIntyre and Catriona Black.

Ceòlas will have a WWI memorial for the battle of Loos on Sunday 26th July to kick off the annual symposium and the following two days will include Food and drink as the focus for the days. Dr. Sarah Marr will be one of the speakers at the symposium.
