This week the Western Isles Phab Club were officially presented with a cheque of £2,000 from Stornoway Police and Western Isles Fire Brigade.
Funds were raised for the excellent cause by Police officers and Fire Fighters who participated in several sporting events during autumn 2010. The Phab club is a local charity aimed to promote and encourage people of all abilities from the Western Isles to come together on equal terms, to achieve complete inclusion within the wider community.
The fundraising events included:
The annual Emergency Services Football Match between the Western Isles Fire Brigade & Police Service which took place at the Stornoway Athletic Stadium in August 2010, with the Police winning 3-2 after an eventful and thrilling match.
Stornoway Police Sergeant Donnie Smith & Fireman Alasdair Stewart also in August 2010 travelled across the world to Tanzania, Africa. The pair successfully climbed the world famous Mount Kilimanjaro.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres.
Stornoway Police Constable Laura Kerr competed in the Loch Ness 10k, Inverness. Laura achieved a lifetime best over the distance.
Police officers Cameron Ross, Neil Macdonald & Eddie Smith cycled 135miles across the Western Isles Command. The trio began their cycle around the Isle of Barra Loop, eventually finishing at Stornoway.
Sporting events involving the Western Isles based Police officers and Fire fighters are already in motion for 2011 to raise further funds for local charities.
