Red Note Reels to Ragas Tour is a cross-genre project fusing global and Indian music in a series of exciting concerts and free workshops on the Hebridean islands of Coll, Skye and Harris and the Perthshire countryside town of Aberfeldy.
Kuljit Bhamra is one of the most inspiring and influential musicians, composers and record producers on the British Asian music scene.
A pioneer of the worldwide Bhangra phenomenon, he has composed and produced over two thousand songs and is responsible for the rise to fame of numerous Bhangra and Bollywood stars.
Joining tabla-player Kuljit are Robert Irvine on cello, Jacqueline Shave on violin and Tom Hankey on viola.
‘Reels to Ragas’ will explore harmony and counterpoint within a raga, which is a traditional form of Indian music with a single-line melodic format; during Indian classical music recitals the raga scale provides a rigid framework within which the performers can improvise. Following on from last year’s tour, Red Note and Kuljit have reworked and developed further the ideal way to play the featured classical and contemporary pieces within the programme.
You can catch the show in Harris on July 22nd, at 7.30pm at The Mission House, Finsbay.
The tour will coincide with the launch of a new CD.
