Refurbishment of local hospital

Refurbishment work is now complete in the Day Hospital and the next stage in the current Western Isles Hospital refurbishment process is to commence improvement work in other areas of the hospital.

This work will be phased over the next few months, and will involve the replacement of the floor coverings from the hospital shop up to Erisort Ward and around to Medical 2.

The first stage of this work will commence on Monday (November 4), when work will start on the corridor outside the Information Technology Department. This first stage will take around two weeks and appropriate diversion signs for access will be in place during each stage of the work for visitors to the hospital.

At each stage in the process, access to corridors will be restricted to allow the carpets to be removed and new vinyl floor coverings to be fitted. Temporary partitions will be installed in each corridor section to prevent access to the work site and minimise the infection control risks.

External doors to the rear of the hospital will be made available for entrance during the whole of the refurbishment period (estimate - 4th November 2013 until 27th January 2014) and the emergency access road around the back of the hospital will be opened up for public pedestrian access to Medical 2, the Renal Unit, the Diabetic Resource Centre and Erisort Ward. Parking will not be permitted on the emergency access road under any circumstances.

NHS Westersn Isles would like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience that this refurbishment work will cause.

The planned programme is as follows, although dates are estimates and may be subject to change. Updates will be issued at regular intervals to ensure the public are aware of arrangements and access restrictions and diversion signs will be in place for visitors to the hospital.
