An independence debate was held at Lews Castle College in Stornoway today (Monday 28th).
In total 49 people voted yes (55%) for Scotland to become an independent country and 40 voted no (45%). One ballot paper was spoilt.
Alasdair Allan MSP and college students Norman Smith and Jack Duncan made the case for independence. While former Western Isles MSP Alasdair Morrison was joined by students Caroline Macpherson and Katie Morrison putting the case forward for staying within the United Kingdom. #
A mixture of students, college staff and members of the public took part in the event in Stornoway.
