Ruairidh Morrison aged 16 and Mòrag Morrison aged 15 are Explorer Scouts from Edinburgh.

They are taking part in a SMESU international Explorer Scout community development expedition to Cambodia in the summer of 2016.

To participate they need to raise £5,000 (£2,500 each) and as part of their fundraising efforts are doing a sponsored walk from Monday, July 20th to Thursday 23rd July.

Their route will take them from the Butt of Lewis, to the pier at Rodel, Harris. In all, it measures approximately 75 miles which they will cover over four days.

Ruairidh and Mòrag’s dad’s side of the family are from Harris and Lewis and they spend their our holidays in Maraig where their late Grandpa, Donald Morrison, and Grandma, Ivy lived.

The duo are fluent Gaelic speakers and attended the Gaelic Medium Unit at Bun Sgoil Croise na Cise and are students of Àrd Sgoil Sheumais Gillesbuig.

Talking about the challenge they said: “We are looking forward to our walk and will be retracing one of the paths our Grandpa used when gathering sheep on the Clisham.

“We would be very grateful for any sponsorship to help fund our costs for this fantastic expedition and have set up a Just Giving page: here.

“We will try to post updates daily (signal dependant) letting people know our progress.

“We would be grateful if you could let your readers know, and look forward to being beeped by them on our route – Butt of Lewis, Tolsta, Stornoway, Ballallan, Scaladale, Maraig, and Rodel Pier.
