COMHAIRLE nan Eilean Siar residents continue to lose money every single day that passes when they don’t take advantage of the free insulation measures on offer said Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Investment today (Wednesday, February 29th).
And Mr Neil announced a further £80,000 to the Western Isles council for the Universal Home Insulation Scheme which offers a range of free home insulation measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty.
The Cabinet Secretary said: “We are fortunate to live in an energy rich nation and it is a disgrace that some people still have to choose between turning their heating on and buying a meal.
“That is why the Scottish Government is continuing to do all we can to tackle rising energy prices and help customers who are struggling with their energy bills.”
Over this year Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has received a total of £430,000 under the insulation scheme in a bid to help residents out of fuel poverty.
Mr Neil continued: “Many nan Eilean Siar households are losing money every day by not taking up free insulation offers.
“I would urge anyone who hasn’t looked at loft or cavity wall insulation to contact the Hotline as soon as possible to access the additional resources.
“Help and support is there an available now in nan Eilean Siar for immediate use,” he urged.
Additional funding has also been identified for the Boiler Scrappage scheme across Scotland.
