a Scam warning

Trading Standards officers in the Western Isles are warning consumers to beware of a new scam designed to con people out of £50.

Consumers are cold called (contacted by someone they have not had dealings with before) and told that they are due a refund of just under £3,000 from the Ministry of Justice.

The caller asks that you purchase a Ukash voucher for £50 (Ukash is a form of e transfer voucher which can be used to pay for phone or internet purchases) and that the caller will phone back later for the Ukash voucher number.

When they have received that voucher number , the caller claims that your cheque will be delivered to your home later that day.

Trading Standards are warning that it is unlikely that consumers will receive anything after the caller has been given the voucher number, as this is clearly a scam to con people out of £50.
