Security is being stepped up across Western isles Hospitals to ensure staff feel safe at work.
Forty nine high tech CCTV cameras will be installed inside public areas of Western Isles Hospital and in all three island hospitals new security doors with electronic locking systems will be put in.
CCTV will also be improved outside all hopsitals and in the Uist and Barra Hospital the reception area will be altered.
A spokesperson for NHS Western Isles said this week the internal cameras cost around £45,000 and added that security was one of the key actions identified through the NHS Western Isles 2010 Staff Survey Group.
