A serious road accident occurred in Harris yesterday afternoon (Monday).
The incident involving only one vehicle took place on the A859 one mile north of the Luskentyre road end. A people carrier travelling south with seven persons within left the roadway which was badly affected by surface water. The vehicle landed on its side in a small loch, however all occupants were safely removed from the vehicle by local fire and ambulance personnel. Police and coastguard units were also in attendance whereby two of the occupants were conveyed by Stornoway Coastguard helicopter to Western Isles Hospital for treatment to head and facial injuries. All other occupants conveyed by ambulance to Western Isles Hospital for treatment.
The road has now fully re-opened.
