Western Isles SNP candidate in the Scottish Parliament, Alasdair Allan, has opened his campaign rooms for the coming election.
A gathering of SNP activists in the islands met on Friday evening to launch their new office at 5 Cromwell Street, opposite Stornoway Town Hall. This will act as the base for the campaign to re-elect Alasdair at the Holyrood elections on 5 May.
Alasdair Allan commented: “As ever, the SNP’s campaign is an active one, and focused on meeting and listening to the voters. I am determined to work hard for every vote, and take nothing at all for granted in this campaign.
“Our campaign offices will allow our volunteers a place to work, but it is also a place for people to come to for information, or to get a poster for their car or house. The contact details are 5 Cromwell Street, Stornoway, opposite the Town Hall, or I can be e-mailed on firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Dr Allan is in Edinburgh today (Tuesday) for the dissolution of the Scottish Parliament, and the launch of the SNP’s national re-election campaign.
He commented: “Today marks the end of the third Scottish Parliament since it was re-established in 1999. I have been deeply honoured to represent the Western Isles in Parliament since 2007.
“Today I will also be taking part in the formal launch of the SNP’s national campaign, at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. I hope I can stand on my own record in the Western Isles, but I believe I can also stand on the record of Scotland’s first SNP Government.
“The SNP brought us RET, froze the council tax, and abolished prescription charges among many other things, despite having no Parliamentary majority.”
He added: “For me the knocking on doors began a long time ago, and the reception I am getting is very encouraging indeed, but now the campaign begins in earnest. I intend, with my team of many activists, to meet as many people in the islands as humanly possible between now and May 5th.”
