Southern Cross redundancy threat lifted

Proposed redundancies and cuts in hours, pay and conditions for the 42,000 Southern Cross staff at 750 UK care homes has been withdrawn, the GMB union have confirmed.

Southern Cross – operators of the Blar Buidhe nursing home in Stornoway – hascrashed and new business plans are being drawn up to secure the future of residents and staff.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the Scottish Government have pledged to safeguard the care of the elderly people caught up in the business crisis.
