A PERMANENT pedestrian right of way is to be reinstated at the new Nicolson Institute build site, leading from Smith Avenue to Sandwick Road, along Springfield Road and the west side of Ionad Spors Leodhais.
It is planned that the route will be available from late August this year.
A second route, to be provided on a grace and favour basis, is also incorporated within the design of the school campus which will provide a direct path along the full length of Springfield Road, through the school campus and terminating at the Matheson Road/Springfield Road junction.
It is proposed that this route be available during weekday evenings out-with school core hours, weekends and school holiday periods.
Stornoway Councillor, Charlie Nicolson, said: “Following community consultation and agreement, I am very pleased that these routes are being provided and I look forward to the completion of this exciting project which will result in a significantly enhanced secondary school for our community.”
Works are progressing as planned on the new Nicolson Institute, with the main building due for completion and available for the start of the new year in August 2012.
The demolition of the existing building and the final phase of hard and soft landscaping elements are due to be completed, as programmed, for January 2013.
