STORNOWAY bakers Stag Bakeries Ltd are celebrating the winning of a new award by the Scotland Food and Drink Skills Academy which recognises the company’s support and commitment to staff training.

Stag Managing Director, Charlie Macdonald, said: “We are delighted to have been among the first in Scotland to receive this award.

“It is very rewarding to have out commitment to staff development and training recognised by such a body, and is a reflection of our staff’s dedication to developing their skills in food manufacture.

“It is good to have all the hard work put in by staff in different departments acknowledged in such a way.”

Scotland Food and Drink Skills Academy (SFDSA), is a new body, launched in November 2010, funded by the Scottish Funding Council, Skills Development Scotland and Scottish Enterprise.

SFDSA recognises that skills provision is the single biggest catalyst to the sustained long-term growth of the food industry in Scotland, and stimulates demand for training by helping employers identify the skills they need now and in the future to allow them to take advantage of new developments and technologies.
