IT MAY be situated on a relatively small island off the north west coast of mainland UK, but Stornoway Post Office has made its mark nationally recently scooping the title of ‘Best Performing Branch’ at the 2012 Post Office Network Sales Awards.
And that’s not all – the branch also took home the award for ‘Most Improved Branch’ and were nominated for ‘Best Performance for Travel Products’ and ‘Best Performance for Financial Products’.
The Stornoway team beat off competition from the UK’s 370 Crown Offices and the 11,500 sub-post office branches around the country.
Stornoway Post Office manager, Tim Durbin, said: “It’s been fantastic to receive these awards and my staff certainly deserve them.
“My guys are brilliant and have a very, very good knowledge of the local market. They know their customers and care about them and I think that shows in our results.”
Mr Durbin added: “The nominations for awards are based on product sales so it was great to be nominated for the Travel and Financial Products as that let’s us know our success wasn’t just based on retail figures.”
Four of the Stornoway branch staff, and partners, were flown to the glittering award ceremony in London’s Park Lane Hilton on Saturday, June 16th. And the branch staff are also delighted with the recent recognition.
Counter teller Diane Bamforth said: “We were overjoyed when we heard about the awards and it’s nice to be recognised for all the hard work that everybody puts in, but the real reward for us is making everyone who comes through the doors happy and ensuring that they come back to us again.”
She added: “It was also nice for us to win the Best Performing award even though we’re a small island branch. We’ve shown the mainland branches just what we’re capable of!”
Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil said: “The Post Office provides a vital service to our communities and I am delighted that Stornoway Post Office has been recognised in this way. They have certainly shown what they are capable of achieving.
“This is a fantastic achievement and I congratulate Tim Durbin, Branch Manager and his staff and I wish them continued success for the future.”
