Strong support for new ferry link

Have your say

Three hundred islanders on South Uist turned out to demonstrate their unanimous backing to efforts by the newly formed ‘Missing Link’ action group for the establishment of a new ferry route between South Uist and Mallaig.

The islands’ elected representatives Angus MacNeil MP, Alasdair Allan MSP, Rhoda Grant MSP who were in attendance, were left in no doubt as to the strength of feeling in the South Uist community and the demand for the new service. The meeting heard from angry islanders who are frustrated that their views and needs seem to have been ignored in the ferry review conducted recently by the Scottish Government.

The meeting also heard from councillor Allan Henderson, Provost of Lochaber who lent his strong support to the campaign stressing that communities on both sides of the Minch would benefit enormously from a new ferry service linking LochBoisdale and Mallaig.
