Two teachers from Castlebay School in Barra have been commended for their commitment to learning.
Annie MacLean was awarded the SQA Champion Award and Catriona Henderson took the Appointee of the Year Award at the SQA Star Awards Ceremony 2013.
SQA Star Awards recognise individuals and schools, colleges, training organisations and employers who deliver SQA qualifications and have demonstrated outstanding commitment to learning.
A report from SQA, stated: “In her five years as an all-through school Head teacher, Annie has demonstrated outstanding commitment to SQA. Having previously been a Primary Depute with little knowledge of SQA, she embraced the challenge of learning about it through regular meetings with SQA staff and liaison officers.
“Catriona’s work with SQA begun as a marker for ‘O’ Grade Geography, and she has since been a marker for Standard Grade for many years at all levels. Additionally Catriona, as a fluent Gaelic speaker, has marked the Standard Grade Geography Gaelic papers for several years.”
Cllr. Catriona Stewart, Chair of Education and Children’s Services Committee, said: “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to both Annie and Catriona on their awards.
“I am pleased that their dedication and commitment to their roles at Castlebay School and the SQA, have been recognised in this manner.”
