Feedback from the first meeting of the new breastfeeding support group in Balivanich has been extremely positive and the Uist Infant Support Team is now inviting mums considering breastfeeding to also join them.

The group, which provides provide advice, guidance and support, was set up by the Uist Infant Support Team as a result of considerable interest from breast feeding mothers in Uist and Benbecula,

Through the new Balivanich Clinic Informal Breastfeeding Support group (aka ‘BIBS’), it is hoped that the numbers of mothers choosing and sustaining breastfeeding will continue to rise.

Local Midwifes said that the first meeting of the group on August 24 went well, with three mums and babies attending. New mums who have just returned home have also expressed an interest in attending the group.

They added: “BIBS is open to all breastfeeding mothers and mothers interested in breastfeeding as a source of support, encouragement and discussion with one another in a relaxed atmosphere. Refreshments are provided and babies and toddlers are also welcome. A midwife and or health visitor will be available for help and advice as required.”

The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month between 11am and 12noon at Balivanich Clinic. All are welcome!
