Island shoppers will at last have the chance to do the weekly shop from the comfort of their own home as Tesco announce the start of online grocery shopping.
The new service will mean not just an extra service for customers but also new job opportunities at the Stornoway shop and the development of a new facility.
James Morrison, Deputy Manager at Stornoway Tesco, commented: “We are delighted to be responding to customers and investing in the Western Isles with a new grocery home delivery service to Harris and Lewis.
“We’re currently making upgrades to our Stornoway store in order to offer this convenient service to customers. The new service will require new Tesco team members and new job opportunities will be advertised locally.”
He added: “Home deliveries will be available Tuesday through Saturday and will launch in the new year. More information about the service and new jobs will be made available in the coming months.
“Our 165 Tesco colleagues are proud to serve the Western Isles through our Stornoway store and we look forward to offering this additional service to our customers.”
A spokesperson for Asda said online grocery shopping provision for the Western Isles was currently going through the planning stages and that it was something which Asda were working towards.
Already in parts of the islands courier services deliver Asda products.
