They’ve done it! The Mischa Macpherson Trio – featuring Lewis lass Mischa – scooped the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in a star-studded award ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London last night (Wednesday, February 19th).

Celebrating their 15th anniversary, the Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014 were presented by Radio 2 Folk Show host, Mark Radcliffe, and folk singer Julie Fowlis.

Bod Shennan, Controller of BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “Congratulations to everyone who won an award.

“It was a wonderful celebration and a reflection of just how vibrant the UK folk music scene is.

“As a genre, folk continues to be an important part of Radio 2’ schedule and we remain committed to broadcasting distinctive and specialist music content,” he added.

And the BBC Red Button will also have highlights from Tuesday, February 25th until Saturday, February 29th.

Other award winners were: Bella Hardy (Folk Singer of the Year); Philip Henry and Hannah Martin (Best Duo); The Full English (Best Group); The Full English – The Full English (Best Album); Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar (Horizon Award); Aidan O’Rourke (Muisican of the Year); Two Ravens – Lisa Knapp (Best Original Song); Willie of Winsbury – Anais Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer (Best Traditional Track); Martin Carthy (Lifetime Achievement Award); and Clanna (Lifetime Achievement Award).
